"There's so much more to a person than just their point of view on politics or religion...Everyone has their own opinions, but that doesn't mean they are less human."
Can you give me a piece of advice?
My piece of advice would be that friends make you who you are. I've learned throughout having different friends, that I am the best person when I surround myself with the best people. Having friends that challenge me to be the best person I can be is important to me. I think that you emulate how your friends act. So I think it is really important to have good people to have as your friends.
Can you tell me about any significant event in your life?
I would say picking my high school is a significant event in my life because- it might sound cheesy but all my friends from middle school went to Carlsbad and I knew that they were going to Carlsbad but I had to decide which school I would go to. I knew that Sage Creek was probably going to be the best fit for me but, I was worried that I didn't know that many people. It turned out to be the best experience I've ever had in
high school. It has been so amazing and I've had nothing but a positive experience at this school. I don't regret anything about choosing here.
What is your greatest struggle?
My parents are very successful and my sister is graduating college this year and she is going right into a salary job with American Airlines. Even though they tell me that I don't have to live up to any expectations. They all are amazing and have met so many accomplishments and sometimes I ask, "Will I live up to that?" it is just a doubt that I keep in my mind.
Can you tell me about a time you were down?
Recently all of my friends started to get boyfriends and I know that.…. It's just hard to see everybody else around you find a person that they know and be loved by that person and cared by so much my that someone and given all that attention. I know that I don't need a boyfriend and I will find my person eventually, but it doesn't make it hurt less. It can kind of be...It can make me kind of feel bad about myself like, "What am I doing wrong?" That is kind of like high school like you see everybody else doing certain things or whatever and you kind of question yourself and it lowers my self-esteem. Am I not as good as everybody else?
Do you feel like you have made impact here?
I hope so. I am grateful for the experience I have had here and not everybody gets to go to such a nice school and the campus is always so clean. All the teachers are great and they really care about you. However, I feel like not everybody gets that experience. We are really lucky that we get free education at such an amazing school. Not everybody gets that. I hope that I can lead by example. Just little things, for example how to treat your teacher and other adults on the campus. Some people take that for granted and they don't respect their teachers or don't respect the staff. How you live your life starts when you are this age. If you treat people like that now, how are you going to learn how to treat people in the future? You also don't know when you are going to meet your classmates in the future and if they could be your boss eventually. You always have to be nice to people.
Current Thoughts/Whims
Right now, I'm going through that whole college thing and dealing with all that work. It is a lot of pressure. That is just the kind of thing that is going on in my life right now. I think that one of the most important things is to always listen to people. This is very general but, I feel like there's so much anger and hostility between people. Even in the whole country, people…I feel scared sometimes to talk about stuff like politics for example because I feel like people won't respect my opinion and listen. I don't really like talking about that kind of stuff at school because I think people will take it in the wrong light-they will take my point of view as me as a whole, as a person. There's so much more to a person than just their point of view on politics or religion. I think that is just a part of respecting everybody. Everyone has their own opinions but that doesn't mean they are less human.
