Kevin Kang - Class of 2020

"Does fate control your life? Does your life have a destiny? Or are you in control of your own life? In my point of view, fate does control our lives."

Name someone who inspires you.

Probably my dad, because he's an engineer. I want to be an engineer when I become an adult. And I feel like my dad is just someone that I can look up to all the time. He's the one that's been guiding me throughout my education throughout my whole life. Same thing with my mom. Although my dad I feel like would fit as a better inspiration. Just because he has experience in like STEM. So I just feel like he's the most fit.

Give me a piece of advice.

I learned this from Mr. Cordell from English class. Last week on Friday, he came in and did a presentation to us. And I noticed that Mr. Cordell has been like he's gone through like so many changes throughout his life, especially in this couple of this last couple of years. He's gotten healthier and now he has like a cool sense of fashion. I feel like the reason why he was able to go through that much change is because he is open to all new sorts of relationships and like all new sorts of like experiences that he can get. I feel like he's the type of person that takes every opportunity that he can get. So if I could give you any advice or anyone any advice, I would probably say be open to new possibilities and new opportunities and never turn something down just because you don't want to do it because I feel like everything could have something beneficial to it.

Tell me about a time that you felt the happiest.

Well, I feel happy. almost all the time, pretty much. Maybe when I'm hanging out with my

friends and family, and it's just like, I can feel comfortable with everybody. And I'm always laughing with my friends and with my family. And I just know that nobody is there to judge me. So I can just do whatever I want and be who I am. So that I feel like, that's what I'm most happy.

Tell me about a time that you felt the worst.

My greatest happiness is when I am not being judged and like, we're just we're just chilling. We're just having fun with my friends and family. I feel like when I'm the saddest, it's when people are judging me, or people are telling me like, that's not what you're supposed to do. I mean, I'm not saying like criticism or anything, but, I don't know. Maybe like when someone's just going to be rude to me. I feel like I take things too personally a lot when I shouldn't. I saw one of your other interview questions was what is your greatest weakness? I feel like that kind of ties into my greatest weakness. I am very sensitive to other people's like opinions and thoughts and words. If somebody is going to be rude to me, I find myself thinking about that stuff too much. I can't help but be sad about something that they criticize me about or something like that.

What is your greatest struggle?

I feel like I struggle the most with dealing with dealing with stress, or like dealing with like a bad relationship I feel like I can't or I don't really deal well with a bad relationship. I feel like I end up just ignoring them if I have a bad relationship with them. I'm not normally the type of person that will go up and apologize for something. I won't just go up and, talk to them about it. Although, I've changed quite a bit, so I feel like I can do that now. But it's just like, I haven't had a bad relationship where I wouldn't want to do that yet.

What does it mean to be part of a community?

One of the biggest parts about being a community

is being nice to people, having good relationships with everybody, and getting to know people. Again, just being open to new relationships with other people in your community. I mean, it's not like being a part of a community requires you to like do something for the community, but I feel like that's, that's helpful and being a part of your community. So if you're contributing to like the well-being of your community, I think that's really beneficial.

Do you feel like you have made an impact?

Yeah, a good example would be my genius project. My genius project is leading the future tennis athletes of our community. So my genius project is where I conduct tennis lessons to kids aged four to seven at Calavera Park. I feel like I've contributed a little bit to my community in that way. I know a lot of people in my community, I feel like I don't have any bad relationships with my community, or with anybody in my community, actually.

Current thoughts/Whims

So right now, we're reading The Alchemist. And one thing that I found interesting about that book so far- haven't read that much of it yet-but one thing when one of the themes that I've drawn from that book was "Does fate control your life?" Does your life have like a destiny? Or are you in control of your own life? In my point of view is fate does control our lives. I feel like everybody has a fate. It's kind of like more of a logical, like, way of looking at it. I feel like if you like have the feeling that you are in control of something. It's only a feeling that you give yourself you don't have any actual control of it.
