Zane Gertzki - Class of 2022

March 19, 2022: Series 03

"School spirit means to me that if everyone as an individual is as accepting as possible, then you can accept people outside of yourself."

What does school spirit mean to you?

Oh that's a tough one. School spirit means to me that if everyone as an individual is accepting as possible then you can accept people outside of yourself. So you can kind of come together as like a collaborative and accepting community. So school spirit doesn't need to be anything flashy as long as everyone gets along.

How would you define community?

Community, you kind of want to think of it like a neighborhood. I mean, you have people next door and a few doors down. You want to know all your neighbors and you want to try to create almost like a reputation amongst others whether it be the upper or lower class men or different groups. So just think about it that way and you kind of get along with everybody, even if you don't know everybody.

How would you describe Sage Creek's Bobcat community?

Sage Creek's Bobcat community is an interesting one. Sometimes we get a little rowdy, but I think it's nice because it's very collaborative. It's also a lot about building on top of one another. So one person can create like a primordial idea and then it just gets bigger and bigger and we can see that with the genius project. We can easily see that with the engineering or biomedical science classes.

Being back in person, do you have a favorite memory for this school year so far? If so, can you describe it?

Anything but a backpack day. I thought that it was pretty good because there were more people without backpacks than with backpacks. It was really entertaining because you have people bringing vacuums, someone brought a mini shopping cart, or a lawn mower and it's just entertaining to see the teachers have no idea. Or you know, teachers don't pay attention to too much about the spirit days. But the students do and when they deliver, they deliver.

How does the "Be Your B.E.S.T" bring us together as a school?

Because if you're the best as an individual, then everyone's good on their own and you can kind of create a nice team or family because if you can't help yourself, then you can't help others. So it's just a lot of collaborative projects and it's a lot of as I mentioned previously with the Bobcat community. It's just building on top of things, whether it be a project or if it's building on top of a person's confidence.
